Disarray Harbor Chapter One: Here Comes The Bride

There once was a little town, it was a quiet village. Everyday, like the one before. Little town, full of little people, waking up to say…

Bonju – Wrong story!!!

But it was a little town and it was for all intent and purposes, a quiet village. If one didn’t look too closely, everyday did seem to look like the one before in this small provincial town. It was called Disarray Harbor and it was full of many families who had kind smiles and waving hands that suggested anything but disarray. This was a nice orderly town full of nice ordinary people who lent cups of sugar to their neighbors, worked hard and provided for their families. Secrets were closely guarded and one did not just air out their dirty laundry. Of course there were only happy families with nothing to hide. Of course…

Every now and again, a secret would surface and spread quickly throughout the neighborhood like wildfire. This author would venture, that the secret of The Mason Family was the secret that lead to the beginning of disarray of Disarray Harbor.

No one was really surprised at the divorce of the Ray and Mandy Mason. Although the official story of what was said to have happened was a just a nice, orderly, calm mutual dissolution of marriage, there were whispers of another woman. No name was given and when asked, Mandy chose not to elaborate. But their divorce did cause quite a scurry throughout the neighborhood.

Mandy and her daughter Melanie were quite fine on their own though. Mandy lives her life as a double agent in the SCIA industry and has faced far worse than the whispers of bored housewives and their husbands. She never did imagine she’d find love again until the day she ran into Alla Markovich. Alla was a nice enough woman although unbeknownst to Mandy, Alla was a secret hypnotist!

Alla had decided it was time for her son Anton, who lived with her, to find a wife, get married and to put down roots. His life of bachelorhood was getting old and she wanted the same thing all parents of a certain age with grown children want, grandchildren. She had been searching for some time for a suitable wife before Alla had met Mandy. Sure Mandy was a little on the older side than Alla would have cared for. But Anton’s wife, in her mind, had to be beautiful, intelligent and hard working. She didn’t want Anton to break his back for a pampered housewife who laid around all day doing nothing. This author speculates that as a hypnotist, it is possible that there was some influence in the affair of Ray Mason and Alaina Black. There is also speculation that Mandy herself wanted to shed some dead weight and co-collaborated but, we’ll never get the truth out of those two.

There was nothing to influence between her son Anton and Mandy though. She could see the sparks of chemistry flying and it wasn’t long at all till Anton was down on one knee proposing.

Before you know it was the morning of the big day. The wedding. They had chosen a Wednesday as the best day to get married as both Anton and Alla had the day off from work. Mandy had work late that afternoon but surely work wouldn’t notice if Mandy played hookie for one day… would they?

The backyard was ready and the decorations all put up when it decided to rain. “Just go ahead and try to strike me down thunder,” Mandy thought to the rain. “Its not going to stop me from enjoying my big day!”

Melanie ate her bowl of cereal before heading to school. While her mother couldn’t wait till the weekend, there were no excuses for neglecting your education.

All that was left was to find the perfect dress and to do both her hair and her makeup. So she hunched over her desktop and see what she could buy online and be shipped quickly to her door. Watching a couple of SimTube video’s on how to do wedding hair and makeup tutorials couldn’t hurt either.

She narrowed it down to three possible dresses. While she loved all of them, she looked each one over carefully before finally settling on a classic off the shoulder conservative gown. (Click the arrow’s to view the dresses)

Mandy went to the mirror to put her hair up and to do her makeup. She liked what she saw in the mirror looking back at her. She was a beautiful bride.

Mandy only had a few friends and she needed them now more than ever to calm her nerves. The event was now only a handful of hours away. Alla picked up and came over right away. She brought with her of all people, Justin Chesterfield. Mandy thought this odd to have as a plus one but assumed it was only as just a friend. Mandy hugged Alla tight and said, “Thank goodness you’re here!”

Mandy went to the bar and started to make some drinks to help settle her nerves. At first, she didn’t know why she was nervous, after all she’s been married once before. But this time was different. Her first marriage with Ray was because of their daughter Melanie and let’s face it, Ray felt trapped. He never really wanted to be a husband and was barely a father. Mandy felt nervous as she realized she had a lot more to lose this time. A man who truly loved her.

Melanie arrived home from school with one of her many best friend’s Lily Stevenson. Even though Melanie had gotten her first boyfriend, Daniel Van de Berg, (Author apologizes for forgetting to take pictures and memorializing that story) this business of love was still new to her and her mother’s wedding filled her with unease too. Melanie hadn’t even had her first kiss yet! Having Lily there who was just as skeptical followed along if only for the lol’s. As Melanie and Lily hopped off the school bus, Mandy got on the phone and started inviting the guests over. In this town, wedding’s were just another sort of event that was thrown together at the last minute. You kept your best tux and dress on the ready for any spur of the moment get together or party. In this town lately, there were a lot of those.

Mandy waited by the alter for her groom and the guests to arrive. One by one the guests sat down and Anton walked up to the alter. They lovingly said their vow’s. They promised to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death the both of them do part. They leaned in and kissed a little too openly for Alla but by the end, even she could not hold back a smile.

The party continued and many good times were had. There was food and drink aplenty and at one point, Mandy found herself the happiest she could ever be. On one side of her was her new husband Anton, and on the other her daughter and best friend Melanie. Her other best friend Chrissie White across the table helped too but seeing her new and old family bond brought her the most joy.

As the party grew on into the night and the drinks kept flowing, making everyone’s inhibitions freer, some faux pas were made that could have ruined the entire wedding if things had gotten any uglier. When Justin Chesterfield tried to grab Mandy’s nose and got her very annoyed reaction, everyone knew it was time to go. Even Justin felt awkward at his horsing around.

But everything was okay because Anton drunkingly swaggered up to his wife and whistled at her provocatively. “Oh you,” Mandy mused. With that they stumbled upstairs and joyfully finished their wedding night, even forgetting to take off Mandy’s veil as she slept.

But the night wasn’t over quite yet. Melanie felt a longing to talk her biological father. Sure she was still angry at him and would be for a long time yet but… he was her father after all wasn’t he? Curiosity got the best of her and called him. They talked for a couple of hours but Melanie still felt a restless inside of her that she could not calm. What exactly is love? She said she loves Daniel and they are boyfriend and girlfriend but nothing seemed differently. After pacing in her room, she pulled out her phone, hung up and then waited outside.

Melanie wasn’t waiting long till Daniel showed up. He didn’t know why she insisted they meet this very moment but was glad to see her either way. Melanie was exactly the kind of girl his parents would frown upon but then again, his family felt that way just about everyone in town. They were the Van de Berg’s after all. The two struck up an easy conversation, talking about nothing while Melanie worked up her nerves. Just do it! she scolded to herself. Melanie leaned in close and Daniel stood still, surprised. Hearts floated around the two of them and she thought, “Ahh… so this is what falling in love is like.” They just stared at each other awkwardly for a minute, both processing what happened.

It was late and a school night, Melanie remembered. They kissed and slowly pulled away as they said good night to one another. Now that the genie was out of the bottle, it was hard to go back in. Melanie dreamily walked up the stairs and to bed and slept very pleasant dreams.

End of Chapter One.

Thanks for reading because in no way shape or form do I call this good writing. It is currently 4:30 AM writing from staying up all night kind of writing from insomnia. Even so that is just an excuse. Thanks anyway for checking it out.
